Where to watch Iftar cannons in Sharjah and Fujairah this Ramadan
Authorities designate key locations for the time-honoured tradition

As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, the UAE continues to uphold one of its most cherished traditions – the firing of the iftar cannon.
The practice of firing cannons at sunset during Ramadan dates back over a thousand years to the Fatimid era in Egypt. The tradition later spread to other Islamic regions, including the Gulf, and remains a significant part of Ramadan in the Emirates, serving as an audible signal marking the end of the day’s fast.
Authorities in Sharjah and Fujairah have officially announced the designated locations where cannons will be fired throughout the month, allowing residents and visitors to witness this historic practice.
Iftar cannon locations in Sharjah
Sharjah Police have designated 10 locations across the emirate where iftar cannons will be fired daily at sunset. These sites have been strategically chosen to ensure accessibility for residents across different regions:
- Al Majaz Waterfront
- Muwailih Suburb Council
- Al Siouh Suburb Council
- Al Rahmaniya Suburb Council
- Al Hamriya Suburb Council
For residents in the central and eastern regions, additional locations have been allocated to extend the reach of this tradition:
- Al Dhaid Fort (Central Region)
- Al Naeem Mosque, Tawila’a (Al Madam, Central Region)
- Clock Tower & Al Hafiya Lake (Kalba, Eastern Region – alternating locations)
- Khorfakkan Amphitheatre (Eastern Region)

Iftar cannon locations in Fujairah
Meanwhile, Fujairah authorities have confirmed that cannons will be fired from 25 different locations each day throughout Ramadan, ensuring that the entire emirate gets to experience the tradition.
Among the most significant sites, Sheikh Zayed Mosque will host the firing on the eighth and ninth days of Ramadan. Other locations include:
- Saqr Saeed Al Yamahi Mosque
- Al Shuhada Mosque
These locations have been selected to maximise community engagement, allowing residents across Fujairah to witness the historic moment at iftar.
Dubai Police had earlier announced both stationary and mobile iftar cannons across the emirate. Residents and visitors in Dubai will also have multiple opportunities to witness the traditional cannon firing throughout the month.
