Kuwait:  Kuwait's travel scene has shown remarkable resilience and growth, with a significant uptick in tourism spending during the summer of 2024. According to recent insights from Wego, the leading travel app in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, Kuwaitis spent approximately US$571.48 (KWD 174.60) per user each month on flights and hotel accommodations from June to August 2024.

This figure marks a noteworthy increase in travel spending, with a growth rate exceeding 20% compared to the previous year.

The surge in expenditure is attributed to the summer school holidays, and Eid al-Adha celebrations, prompting many families to embark on trips to reconnect with loved ones or explore new destinations.

Another factor driving the surge in travel, according to Wego, was the significant drop in airfare prices. This summer, flights departing from Kuwait were 36.42% lower than the previous year, making travel more accessible and affordable for many.

Key Destinations

Wego’s revealed that popular international destinations among Kuwaiti travellers included Egypt, India, Turkiye, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. This diverse selection of locations highlights the eagerness of Kuwaiti travellers to experience a mix of cultural, historical, and recreational offerings available in these regions.

Looking ahead

As the travel landscape evolves, the increase in Kuwaiti travel spending suggests a promising future for tourism in Kuwait. With a focus on affordable travel options and a growing interest in international destinations, the outlook for the summer travel season remains bright.
