Dubai’s Burj Khalifa has unveiled a revolutionary lighting system to commemorate the UAE's 53rd Eid Al Etihad.

Emaar Properties, the developer behind the world’s tallest tower, announced the debut of this cutting-edge dynamic RGBW lighting upgrade on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

The inaugural display celebrated the UAE's National Day celebrations, and will mark the countdown to the tower’s 15th anniversary on January 4, 2025.

This dynamic lighting system replaces the previous static lights with addressable fixtures, creating a visually immersive experience through vibrant colours and effects.

What’s new at Burj Khalifa?

The new lighting, featuring RGBW (red, green, blue, and white) technology, promises a spectrum of vivid colours and dynamic effects. The upgraded system has been seamlessly integrated into Burj Khalifa’s sleek design after six months of rigorous testing. It allows for customised lighting scenes tailored to national celebrations, cultural festivities, and daily illuminations.

The lighting upgrade involved extensive mock-up testing to ensure flawless integration. The RGBW fixtures, capable of producing dynamic and intricate lighting patterns, are a testament to Emaar’s commitment to blending cutting-edge technology with artistry.

Emaar Properties highlighted that the system offers a stunning interplay of colours and patterns, enhancing the visual appeal of the 829.8-metre skyscraper while preserving its architectural integrity.

Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Executive Director of Emaar Properties, said, “Burj Khalifa has always stood as a beacon of what is possible when vision meets innovation. This lighting transformation celebrates the UAE’s spirit of progress and reaffirms Dubai’s status as a city of boundless ambition.”

The system’s first showcase during the 53rd Eid Al Etihad underlines the UAE’s commitment to innovation and excellence. The visual display is set to mesmerise audiences worldwide, offering a symbolic nod to the nation’s unity and future-forward vision.

How to Watch

Residents and tourists can witness the live displays at the Burj Khalifa in Downtown Dubai. For those unable to attend in person, the dazzling spectacle will also be broadcast across the UAE, on local TV channels, and streamed online via the official Eid Al Etihad YouTube channel.

Additionally, cinemas nationwide will host screenings of the official celebration, providing an inclusive experience for audiences across the Emirates.

Burj Khalifa’s legacy

Since its completion in 2010, Burj Khalifa has stood as a marvel of modern engineering and design. The tower’s 163 floors house a mix of residences, offices, and leisure spaces, including the world-famous At.mosphere restaurant on the 122nd floor.

With this latest lighting upgrade, the Burj Khalifa’s reputation as a global icon is further cemented. Visitors can look forward to awe-inspiring visuals, making it a must-visit destination during the UAE’s National Day celebrations and beyond.
