DUBAI: In the bustling heart of Dubai’s Naif district, tragedy struck early on Saturday as a fierce hotel fire claimed the lives of two people, with smoke inhalation as the cause.
The Dubai Civil Defence, demonstrating rapid response, arrived within a remarkable six minutes, launching both firefighting and evacuation efforts as they fought to prevent further casualties.
The flames were subdued in this vibrant, central area known for its eclectic mix of South Asian shops, cosy cafés, and family-friendly parks.
The Dubai Media Office, in a statement released on social media, highlighted the swift actions of the Civil Defence teams, noting that “Dubai Civil Defense teams arrived on-site within six minutes, immediately initiating evacuation, firefighting, and providing support to those affected.”
Adding to the tragic news, the General Directorate of Civil Defence offered words of solace, saying, “The General Directorate of Civil Defence extends its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased.”
Naif is a well-known city-centre area lined with small stores selling everything from photography equipment to Indian groceries. Its shaded paths in Naif Family Park and modest hotels provide a lively, communal atmosphere.
