Muscat, the port capital of Oman, is a popular tourist destination with many attractions. It is located on the Gulf of Oman and is surrounded by mountains and deserts. With a rich history dating back to ancient times, the city boasts a mix of modern high-rises, luxury shopping malls, and historic landmarks such as the 16th-century Portuguese forts - Al Jalali and Mirani - which overlook Muscat Harbor. The city’s most notable landmark is the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, a modern marble-clad structure with a 50m dome and a vast Persian carpet that can accommodate up to 20,000 people.
