Heavy fines, impoundments, and black points aim to curb reckless driving

Dubai Police have released a detailed breakdown of traffic violations recorded by AI-powered radar systems, highlighting fines, vehicle impoundment durations, and black points aimed at improving road safety and reducing accidents.

The announcement came during a press conference at the Research and Development Center at Dubai Police Headquarters.

The event was attended by Brigadier Issam Ibrahim Al Awar, Acting Deputy Director of the General Department of Traffic, and Brigadier Engineer Mohammad Ali Karam, Director of Traffic Technologies, along with senior officers and journalists.

Strict penalties for speeding

According to Dubai Police, exceeding the maximum speed limit by more than 80 km/h results in a hefty Dh3,000 fine, a 60-day vehicle impoundment, and 23 black points. Speeding beyond 60 km/h incurs a Dh2,000 fine, 20-day impoundment, and 12 black points.

For exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h, the fine is Dh1,000, while those exceeding by more than 40 km/h face a Dh700 penalty. Additionally, exceeding the limit by over 30 km/h results in a Dh600 fine, while exceeding it by 20 km/h incurs a Dh300 fine.

Running a Red Light

Drivers caught running a red light face a Dh1,000 fine, 30-day vehicle impoundment, and 12 black points. Failing to stay in the mandatory lane results in a Dh400 fine, while heavy vehicles violating lane rules face a Dh1,500 fine and 12 black points.

Driving against traffic

Motorists driving against the traffic direction receive a Dh600 fine, a 7-day vehicle impoundment, and 4 black points. Additionally, using the road shoulder improperly carries a Dh1,000 fine, a 30-day impoundment, and 6 black points.

Seatbelt and Phone use violations

Not wearing a seatbelt results in a Dh400 fine and 4 black points. Drivers caught using a mobile phone while driving face a Dh800 fine and 4 black points. Meanwhile, exceeding the legal tint limit for vehicle windows carries a Dh1,500 fine.

Safe distance and noise offences

Failing to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead results in a Dh400 fine and 4 black points. Vehicles producing excessive noise face a Dh2,000 fine and 12 black points.

Pedestrian safety

Failing to give way to pedestrians at designated crossings incurs a Dh500 fine and 6 black points.

Improper turns and stopping offences

Turning in a non-designated area results in a Dh500 fine and 4 black points. Driving with an expired licence carries the same penalty. Stopping a vehicle in the middle of the road without a valid reason results in a Dh1,000 fine and 6 black points.

Heavy vehicle restrictions

Heavy vehicles entering prohibited areas face a Dh1,000 fine and 4 black points. Additionally, blocking another vehicle’s movement by stopping behind it results in a Dh500 fine.
