University of Wollongong in Dubai celebrates the Class of 2024
Graduates reflect on their journey as they embrace future opportunities
DUBAI: The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD), renowned as the region’s highest-ranked Australian institution, marked a significant milestone for its Class of 2024 during the university’s Annual Graduation Ceremonies at the Hotel Grand Hyatt Dubai.
The event, held on October 29th and 30th, celebrated the academic accomplishments of UOWD’s graduates, reinforcing the university's dedication to fostering excellence in higher education and leadership development within the UAE.
The undergraduate ceremony was graced by Sheikh Hasher Bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Media Incorporated, who, alongside Ridwaan Jadwat, the Australian Ambassador to the UAE, presented awards to the top-performing graduates. This moment was a proud occasion for the graduates and their families, symbolising the success of their academic journeys.
The postgraduate ceremony featured inspiring speeches from leading industry figures, including Ivor McGettigan, Partner at Al Tamimi & Company, and Keenan Hamza, Vice President of Technology Futures & Innovation at Emirates Group. Their addresses provided valuable insights into the rapidly evolving sectors they represent, urging graduates to seize the opportunities ahead in a constantly changing world.
In his address, Professor Mohamed Salem, President of UOWD, praised the achievements of the graduates. “Today, we honour not only your academic accomplishments but also your personal growth as part of a university community that has always placed your future at its core,” he said. “Each of you is now part of a global alumni network dedicated to growth, equipped to lead and innovate in an ever-evolving world. Your time here has prepared you not just for today’s opportunities but for tomorrow’s possibilities.”
UOWD’s commitment to producing career-ready graduates is underscored by its impressive statistic: 84% of graduates secure employment within six months of completing their studies. Alumni of UOWD have gone on to excel in some of the world’s leading organisations, including Amazon, Meta, and IBM, while others have pursued postgraduate studies at renowned institutions such as Stanford and Harvard.
Rafiah Dada, the top graduate, delivered the Vote of Thanks on behalf of her peers. “Graduating from UOWD is a moment of reflection and celebration, symbolising our growth, resilience, and the strong bonds we’ve formed,” she remarked. “This ceremony represents an ending and a powerful beginning as we step into the world as graduates. We are inspired and motivated to tackle the challenges ahead and eager to embrace the countless opportunities in our careers and lives.”
