Dubai: Understanding the changing needs of the workforce, the Human Resources and Emiratistion has developed six different work options that could pursued legally under the UAE Federal Law No. 33 of 2021 and Cabinet Resolution No. (1) Of 2022
With the ability to choose from different work arrangements, such as flextime, remote work, and part-time work, employees can create a schedule that suits their needs. This can improve job satisfaction, mental health, and a more productive workforce. Additionally, by having different work options, employers can attract and retain top talent while promoting a culture of work-life balance in the workplace.
It is essential to know the details of the legality surrounding the work options because specific provisions concerning end-of-service benefits and annual leave are based on the nature of employment.
Here's a breakdown of the six legal work arrangements:
- Remote work: All or part of the work is performed outside the workplace, with electronic communication between the worker and the employer instead of physical presence, whether part-time or full-time.
- Job sharing: The tasks and duties are divided among more than one worker as agreed upon in advance, reflected in the wages due to each of them. The workers are dealt with under the rules of part-time work.
- Full-time: Working for one employer for the full work hours throughout the working days.
- Part-time: Working for one or more employers for a specific number of working hours or days.
- Flexible work: This pattern is characterised by variable working hours or days, depending on the workload, economic conditions, and the employer's operational needs. The employee might be required to work at fluctuating times based on the job's conditions and requirements.
- Temporary work: Work is carried out within a specific period or involves a particular task. The employment concludes once the task or project is completed.
