Riyadh Metro, the world’s longest driverless train network, now fully operational with six lines covering 176 km and 85 stations.

Saudi Arabia’s Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has officially completed the phased rollout of the Riyadh Metro, with the Orange Line (Line 3) commencing operations on Sunday (January 5).

This milestone marks the full activation of all six lines in the network, establishing Riyadh Metro as the largest in the Middle East and the world’s longest driverless metro system.

Orange Line

The Orange Line stretches 41 kilometres, linking the eastern and western parts of Riyadh. It starts at Jeddah Road in the west and reaches the second eastern ring road near the Khashm Al Aan area in the east. Operational from 6:00AM, it features five stations: Jeddah Road, Tuwaiq, Douh, Harun Al-Rashid Road, and Al-Naseem, the latter serving as a transfer hub connecting the Orange and Purple lines.

This achievement completes the phased operation plan introduced during the project’s inauguration by King Salman on November 27, 2024.

Blue Line expansion

Alongside the Orange Line’s launch, RCRC announced the addition of three new stations on the Blue Line, which connects Olaya Street to Batha. The newly opened Al Morooj Station, Bank Al Bilad Station, and King Fahd Library Station enhance the network’s reach and accessibility.

The Riyadh Metro network spans 176 kilometres, incorporating six colour-coded lines – Blue, Red, Yellow, Green, Purple, and Orange – and 85 stations, including four central hubs. Earlier phases saw the opening of the Blue, Yellow, and Purple Lines on December 1, followed by the Red and Green Lines on December 15.

As a backbone of the city’s transportation infrastructure, the Riyadh Metro offers residents and visitors a highly efficient travel option. Tickets can be purchased through the Darb app, station kiosks, or ticket offices, with payment options ranging from credit cards to mobile wallets. Operating hours are from 6:00AM to midnight daily, ensuring accessibility and convenience for all commuters.
