Abu Dhabi: The European Film Festival is beginning in Abu Dhabi on May 12 this year. The festival which is expected to further consolidate cultural relations between the UAE and EU shall continue until May 16, 2024.  Organized by the EU Delegation to the UAE in collaboration with the Cultural Foundation in Abu Dhabi, the festival promises a captivating cinematic experience.

The festival will feature a curated selection of 10 distinctive European films, each presented by the embassies and cultural institutes of EU member states including the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Slovenia, and Sweden.

The screenings will take place at the theaters in Abu Dhabi's Cultural Foundation. Free of charge, the festival aims to introduce UAE residents to the diverse cinematic landscapes of Europe while fostering mutual understanding and appreciation.

The festival will also provide a platform for aspiring talents in the UAE's burgeoning film industry.

A specialized workshop is designed on screenwriting and storytelling to nurture local talent and share best practices and experiences. A seasoned European film expert will conduct the workshop.

H.E. Lucie Berger, EU Ambassador to the UAE, said:

"Cinema is one of the most influential mediums in modern society. Films help us see the world differently and learn about other cultures. By investing in cultural and artistic fields we help promote the values of coexistence, tolerance, dialogue, and the exchange of ideas. We hope that through the European Film Festival, we can present unique films that will introduce the Emirati audience to the diverse cultures of European countries and their creative industries."

The European Film Festival emerges as a beacon of cultural diplomacy, poised to transcend borders and unite audiences in celebration of the cinematic arts.
