DUBAI: Renie, a leader in smart waste management, has entered a landmark collaboration with Tetra Pak, a global giant in food packaging and processing.
This partnership is set to unveil an innovative recycling solution at Gulfood Manufacturing 2024, hosted at Dubai World Trade Centre, where thousands of attendees will witness Renie’s Smart Bins in action.
Renie’s Smart Bins, which combine advanced technology and data processing, are designed to support circularity by making post-consumer packaging collection more accessible.
At the event, visitors can engage directly with these Smart Bins by disposing of their used Tetra Pak cartons, which will then be sent for recycling through Renie’s extensive collection network across the UAE.
Smart Bins
The Renie Smart Bins, launched in August 2023, are equipped with state-of-the-art sensors that track and monitor waste in real-time. This data is then processed within Renie’s Software Solutions application, which provides insights into waste management and identifies revenue opportunities.
By using these intelligent waste solutions, organisations can turn waste from a cost centre into a profitable asset.
"The collaboration with Tetra Pak represents another step forward in driving change that will benefit not only our environment but also influence consumer behaviour," said Sander Van Waes, CEO and Founder of Renie. "Through collective effort, everyone can play a fundamental part in creating a greener and cleaner tomorrow and be rewarded for their actions."
UAE’s vision for sustainability
This partnership aligns with Tetra Pak’s ambitious recycling initiatives in the UAE, including the recent installation of a cutting-edge recycling line for carton packages in collaboration with Union Paper Mills. Set to begin operations by late November 2024, this facility has the capacity to recycle up to 10,000 tonnes of carton packages annually, a substantial step towards achieving Dubai’s target of zero landfill waste by 2030 under the UAE Green Agenda 2030.
Marcelo Piva, Sustainability Director for the Middle East and Africa at Tetra Pak, highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration in realising these goals: “Together with Renie, we are driving a concerted effort towards enabling recycling of Tetra Pak carton packages to be far more accessible in the United Arab Emirates, and look forward to a wide adoption of the Smart Bin solution across the Emirates."
Gulfood Manufacturing 2024
At Gulfood Manufacturing 2024, industry professionals will have the unique opportunity to witness this pioneering waste stream solution up close. Visitors to Tetra Pak’s stand will be able to experience how Renie’s Smart Bins operate, gaining a practical understanding of waste stream management and the benefits of recycling at the source.
This collaboration showcases Renie’s and Tetra Pak’s commitment to fostering a circular economy in the UAE by incentivising responsible waste separation. Through these efforts, both companies are actively contributing to the UAE’s sustainable development targets, notably Vision 2021 and Vision 2031, aimed at reducing environmental impact and enhancing sustainability across the region.
