DUBAI: Global Village, the region’s premier multicultural family destination, is set to host its first-ever Hag Al Leila celebration, bringing to life a cherished Emirati tradition that marks the countdown to the holy month of Ramadan.
Taking place from 13 to 16 February 2025 between 5:00PM and 8:00PM, this four-day activation will transform the heart of the park, between the Main Stage and Dragon Lake, into a cultural haven.
Hag Al Leila
Hag Al Leila, observed on the 15th night of Sha’ban, is deeply rooted in Emirati heritage, symbolising generosity, family bonds, and the spirit of giving. Global Village’s unique take on the celebration will feature immersive experiences, from interactive workshops to traditional storytelling, allowing families to engage with this time-honoured occasion.
Guests will step into a beautifully decorated setting adorned with palm fronds, woven mats, lanterns, and majlis seating. Adding an authentic touch, elderly women in traditional Emirati attire will share folklore stories, recite songs, and distribute sweets to children, who will joyfully chant “Aatona Hag Al Leila” as they collect their treats.
Workshops and entertainment
The event will also feature creative workshops designed to entertain and educate young guests. Children will take part in arts and crafts sessions inspired by Hag Al Leila, creating personalised keepsakes while learning about the cultural significance of the tradition. Heritage games will further immerse them in the festive spirit, fostering an appreciation for Emirati customs.
Adding to the excitement, families will have the opportunity to meet Global Village’s beloved characters, The Wonderers, who will interact with young guests, pose for photos, and distribute special Hag Al Leila gift pouches.
UAE’s Year of Community
Hag Al Leila has long played a vital role in strengthening family and community ties while instilling values of kindness and gratitude in younger generations. By bringing this celebration to a global audience, Global Village reaffirms its commitment to cultural preservation and inclusivity, aligning with the UAE’s Year of Community initiative.
