DUBAI: In a spectacular display of community spirit and dedication to fitness, Dubai Ride 2024 broke records as over 37,130 cyclists took to the streets on Sunday.
Presented by DP World, the event transformed Sheikh Zayed Road and Downtown Dubai into an extensive cycling track, offering both families and fitness enthusiasts a memorable experience as part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC).
Dubai Ride 2024
Now in its fifth edition, Dubai Ride has become one of the most popular highlights of the Dubai Fitness Challenge. Designed to encourage an active lifestyle, the event featured a family-friendly 4-km ride and a challenging 12-km course, allowing participants to experience Dubai’s iconic landmarks from the saddle.
This year, the Dubai Ride Speed Laps added an exhilarating new twist, as experienced cyclists dashed down Sheikh Zayed Road at an impressive pace of 30 km/h before joining family and friends for the main event.
Who participated in Dubai Ride 2024?
The event attracted a diverse range of participants, including amateur cyclists, families, and elite athletes, with a record-breaking 37,130 taking part. Among the notable athletes were Olympic stars like American triathlete Taylor Spivey, silver medalist in triathlon at the Paris 2024 Olympics, and Safia Al Sayegh, who represented the UAE in road cycling at the Paris Olympics. Spivey, in Dubai ahead of the Dubai T100 Triathlon World Championship Final, rode the 12-km course, inspiring participants with her athleticism and dedication to fitness.
“This event has been a phenomenal display of our incredible community," remarked Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council. "The record turnout reflects our commitment to making Dubai the world’s most active city, enhancing the quality of life for participants and the wider community.”
Power of community engagement
Starting with a ceremonial kick-off led by Dubai Police supercars and talabat riders, Dubai Ride 2024 was a celebration of community spirit. UNTOLD Dubai DJs filled the air with energising music, and beloved characters Modesh and Dana joined the Downtown Dubai route, adding a touch of festive joy. Families, friends, and individuals of all ages cycled past landmarks like the Burj Khalifa, Museum of the Future, and Dubai Water Canal, creating a sense of unity and shared commitment to a healthier future for the city.
