DUBAI: Fujairah International Airport has formalised a major aviation partnership with IndiGo, India’s leading budget airline, to launch two daily direct flights connecting Fujairah to Mumbai and Kannur.

The new routes will commence on 15th May 2025, enhancing travel options for passengers and strengthening the aviation and economic links between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of India.

This strategic partnership positions Fujairah as IndiGo’s 41st international destination and its fifth within the UAE, following Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah. The expansion reflects growing demand for accessible, affordable travel options among residents, business travellers, and tourists. Mumbai, India’s financial hub, and Kannur, a key city in Kerala with significant diaspora connections in the Gulf, are already among the most sought-after destinations for UAE travellers.

IndiGo’s entry into Fujairah

Captain Esmail Al Baloushi, General Manager of Fujairah International Airport, expressed optimism about the development, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome IndiGo to Fujairah. This partnership enhances our mission to offer passengers more travel options while improving Fujairah’s connectivity with key Indian cities.” He noted that the move is expected to elevate the emirate’s profile as both a tourist hotspot and business gateway.

IndiGo’s entry into Fujairah is expected to stimulate the local economy by attracting a greater volume of international visitors. With Fujairah’s scenic landscapes, historical heritage, and position along the Gulf of Oman, tourism is anticipated to benefit substantially from increased accessibility.

Seamless connectivity

Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, highlighted the airline’s confidence in Fujairah’s potential. “We are pleased to launch daily direct flights to Fujairah, a hidden gem rich in natural beauty and strategic importance,” he said. He emphasised the city's rising role in trade, logistics, and tourism, and praised the airport’s growing infrastructure and hospitality standards.

To complement the flights, IndiGo will offer dedicated bus services connecting Fujairah with Dubai and Sharjah, streamlining transit for passengers across the region. The flight schedules are strategically designed for efficiency, with well-coordinated arrival and departure times. These additions underline IndiGo’s commitment to punctual, seamless, and affordable travel.

IndiGo’s broader international strategy, including recent launches to Amsterdam, Manchester, and Krabi, further affirms its commitment to expanding beyond domestic borders.
