RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has declared a four-day Eid Al-Fitr holiday for employees in the private and non-profit sectors.

The break will commence on Sunday, March 30, and conclude on Wednesday, April 2, allowing workers an extended period to celebrate with their families. Regular work schedules will resume on Thursday, April 3.

The ministry’s directive aligns with the Labour Law’s executive regulations, specifically paragraph 2 of Article 24, which mandates employers to ensure employees receive their full holiday entitlements.

The announcement provides clarity to businesses and organisations regarding the observance of the Eid break, reinforcing the importance of maintaining compliance with labour regulations.

Extended festivities

With the holiday beginning on a Sunday, employees will enjoy an uninterrupted break, enhancing opportunities for travel, social gatherings, and traditional festivities. This extended period marks one of the longest private-sector Eid breaks in the kingdom’s recent history.

Public sector holidays are typically longer, but this year’s private sector announcement ensures a notable rest period for non-governmental employees.

Compliance reminder

Employers have been urged to adhere strictly to the holiday schedule, ensuring all eligible employees benefit from the break. The ministry has emphasised that any exceptions must be handled in accordance with the Labour Law, ensuring that workers receive due compensation if required to work during the festive period.
