Pakistan and UAE set to host mega ODI event this month

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a total prize pool of $6.9 million for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, set to be held in Pakistan and UAE from February 19 to March 9.
The winners of the highly anticipated tournament will receive $2.24 million, while the runners-up will take home $1.12 million.
Each of the two losing semi-finalists will earn $560,000, and teams finishing in fifth and sixth place will be awarded $350,000 each.
The seventh and eighth-placed sides will receive $140,000, while all eight participating teams are guaranteed $125,000 just for competing.
Match-winning rewards
Every match in the group stage will carry significant financial stakes, with each victory earning a team $34,000. With teams vying for both glory and substantial rewards, the competition is expected to be fierce. The 2025 edition marks a 53% increase in prize money compared to the 2017 tournament, demonstrating the ICC’s commitment to boosting the sport’s global appeal.
Champions Trophy 2025
The Champions Trophy returns for the first time in eight years, making this edition even more significant. It will also be the first global cricket tournament held in Pakistan since 1996, with matches scheduled in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. However, in a notable exception, India’s matches will be played in Dubai.
The tournament will feature eight teams, split into two groups of four, with the top two from each group progressing to the semi-finals.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 represents a pivotal moment for cricket, reviving a tournament that highlights the pinnacle of ODI talent, where every match is critical.”
He further emphasised that the increased prize pool underscores the ICC’s dedication to growing the sport and ensuring its financial sustainability. “Beyond the financial incentive, this tournament ignites fierce competition, captivates fans worldwide, and plays a vital role in fostering the growth and long-term sustainability of cricket for future generations,” he added.
The ICC has also confirmed that the Champions Trophy will be held every four years, solidifying its place in the international cricket calendar. Meanwhile, the Women’s Champions Trophy is set to debut in 2027 in a T20 format, further expanding the game’s global reach.
