DUBAI: Apple fans eagerly awaiting the next iPhone may not have to wait much longer.

Industry insider Mark Gurman reports that Apple is expected to announce a new device next week, with a possible release date of February 28, 2025. Pre-orders could go live as early as February 21.

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently teased an upcoming launch, saying, “Get ready to meet the newest member of the family” on February 19. While Apple has not officially confirmed whether this refers to a new iPhone SE, speculation is mounting that this could be the long-awaited update to its budget-friendly lineup.

Design and display

One of the biggest rumored upgrades is a 6.1-inch OLED display, which would be a significant jump from the 4.7-inch LCD panel of the previous SE model. If true, this would align the design with Apple’s modern iPhone lineup, featuring an edge-to-edge display similar to the iPhone 14.

Reports also suggest that Apple may be moving away from the Home button and Touch ID, potentially introducing Face ID housed within a notch at the top of the display. However, these details remain speculative until Apple makes an official announcement.

Processor and AI features

There is speculation that the next budget iPhone could feature the A18 chip, the same processor expected in the upcoming iPhone 16 series. If accurate, this would bring improved speed, efficiency, and possibly Apple Intelligence features to the device. However, until Apple confirms the specifics, the final hardware details remain uncertain.

Camera and connectivity

Some leaks suggest the rear camera could be upgraded to 48MP, a major leap from the 12MP sensor on the iPhone SE (2022). While Apple has not confirmed any details, this would mark a significant enhancement in image quality.

Another rumored change is the introduction of Apple’s in-house 5G modem, potentially improving network performance and battery efficiency. If true, this would mark Apple’s move away from Qualcomm’s chips, but official confirmation is still awaited.

USB-C Charging

In compliance with European regulations, Apple is widely expected to switch from Lightning to USB-C charging on its upcoming devices. If applied to the next budget iPhone, this would align it with Apple’s flagship models and improve compatibility with third-party accessories.

Price

Pricing details remain speculative, but analysts predict a starting price of around $500 (approximately Dh1,836), slightly higher than the iPhone SE (2022), which launched at $430 (Dh1,579). The price increase could be due to potential hardware upgrades, but Apple has yet to confirm any pricing details.

Apple’s upcoming line-up

The rumored budget iPhone is just one of several devices Apple is expected to unveil soon. Reports suggest that the company will also introduce the M4 MacBook Air in the coming weeks. Additionally, new M3 iPad Air and iPad 11 models could be announced later this year, making 2025 a significant year for Apple’s product launches.
