The world’s largest tech event, GITEX Global, kicked off at the Dubai World Trade Centre today, drawing in tech innovators, thought leaders, and investors from across the globe.

What is GITEX Global 2024?

GITEX Global 2024 is one of the most prestigious technology exhibitions, known for hosting trailblazers in the digital and IT industries. Taking place annually in Dubai, this event showcases the latest advancements in technology, including artificial intelligence, blockchain, fintech, cloud computing, and more. The 2024 edition of GITEX has been labeled as the biggest yet, attracting over 6,000 exhibitors from 170 countries and covering 2 million square feet of exhibition space.

Pakistan’s participation at GITEX has been a testament to its rapid growth in the technology sector, solidifying its status as a global tech destination.

Who inaugurated the Pakistan Pavilion?

Pakistan's Pavilion at GITEX Global 2024 was inaugurated by Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, the Pakistani Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). During his inaugural speech, Ambassador Tirmizi emphasized Pakistan’s growing stature in the global tech industry. He proudly announced that Pakistan has been named the "Tech Destination of the Year 2024," a recognition of the country's progress in IT-related services and products.

Tirmizi was joined by other key dignitaries, including Consul General Hussain Muhammad, Trade & Investment Counsellor Ali Zeb Khan, and senior officials from Pakistan. The presence of these high-ranking officials underscores the significance of Pakistan’s involvement in this global event.

Pakistan’s IT industry on the rise

Ambassador Tirmizi highlighted the impressive growth of Pakistan’s IT exports, particularly to the UAE, which have surged by 34 percent to reach $265 million. Pakistan’s global IT exports now stand at $3.2 billion, a figure expected to grow further in the coming years. The ambassador praised the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Minister of State for IT & Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, for their role in driving the growth of the country's IT sector.

“Pakistan, with the third-largest English-speaking population and the second-largest provider of freelance IT services globally, is uniquely positioned to expand its IT exports,” said Ambassador Tirmizi. This expansion is being fueled by Pakistan's vast pool of tech talent, innovation, and a growing entrepreneurial ecosystem.

What makes the Pakistan Pavilion stand out?

The Pakistan Pavilion showcases a diverse array of innovations in IT and technology, with 24 exhibitors demonstrating their latest products and services. These exhibitors represent some of Pakistan's leading companies in software development, IT services, and emerging technologies like AI, machine learning, and blockchain.

The pavilion has been meticulously organized by several key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), Pakistan Software Houses Association (PASHA), and the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). Together, these organisations have ensured that Pakistan’s full potential is presented at GITEX Global.

Tirmizi applauded the efforts of these organizations in enabling Pakistan to take part in such a major event. "Their joint efforts have made it possible for Pakistan to present its full spectrum of capabilities at GITEX Global, the world’s largest IT exhibition," he said.

Why GITEX Global is important for Pakistan

GITEX Global offers Pakistan an unparalleled opportunity to connect with the international tech community. With the event being the largest of its kind, Pakistani companies and startups have the chance to network with global leaders, attract investment, and explore potential partnerships.

Tirmizi encouraged business leaders and IT professionals to explore the Pakistan Pavilion, saying it provides a window into the country’s rapidly evolving IT industry. With 24 exhibitors showcasing cutting-edge technologies and solutions, the pavilion serves as a prime example of how Pakistan is positioning itself as a key player in the global tech ecosystem.

In addition to connecting with global tech leaders, Pakistan’s participation in GITEX is also an opportunity to highlight its growing role in providing IT solutions to the international market. The event is an important platform for fostering collaborations and identifying new business opportunities, which are crucial for the country's long-term economic growth.
