Dubai, UAE – The Dubai Civil Aviation Authority has implemented stricter regulations on items permitted in both checked and carry-on luggage, effective immediately. These changes aim to enhance passenger safety and align with international standards.
Prohibited medications and narcotics
A significant update to the regulations involves a comprehensive ban on specific medications and narcotics. Substances such as betamethadol, alpha-methyl fentanyl, oxycodone, and all forms of narcotics and hallucinogens are now prohibited.
Additionally, cannabis, codoxime, fentanyl, poppy straw concentrate, methadone, opium, trimeperidine, phenoperidine, and cathinone are also on the prohibited list.
Travelers are advised to carefully review their medications before departure to avoid any inconvenience.

Restrictions on other items
The new regulations extend to a broader range of items. Goods originating from or bearing Israeli trademarks, crude ivory, rhinoceros horns, and gambling tools are strictly prohibited.
Other banned items include three-layer fishing nets,radiation-polluted substances, used or reconditioned tires, printed materials, artworks, and sculptures that contradict Islamic teachings or promote immorality.
Food restrictions
To comply with local regulations and maintain food safety standards, the import of betel leaves, home-cooked food, and non-vegetarian food items is now prohibited.
Permitted customs-exempted items
To clarify permitted items, travelers may bring gifts valued up to AED 3,000, a limited quantity of cigarettes, cigars, and tobacco products, and a specific amount of alcoholic beverages without incurring customs duties. However, exceeding these allowances will result in customs charges.
Certain products, including plants, fertilizers, medications, electronics, and alcohol, require special clearance and payment before entering Dubai. Personal belongings such as cameras, cash, and electronic devices are generally exempt from customs duties.
