Dubai:  Dubai's low-cost carrier, Flydubai, has announced plans to receive seven new aircraft and hire over 130 new pilots before the end of 2024. This expansion aims to support the airline's growing network and ambitious recruitment goals.

Network expansion with new aircraft

The new additions will bolster Flydubai's fleet, currently comprised of 88 Boeing 737s. This will allow them to expand their network to include new destinations like Basel, Riga, Tallinn, and Vilnius.

Increased workforce with pilot recruitment drive

Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer of Flydubai, said, "Today, Flydubai has grown its workforce to more than 5,800 skilled professionals represented by 140 nationalities, more than 1,200 of whom are pilots. We are on track to hire more than 130 new pilots by the end of this year."

He further added that the airline employed more than 440 employees this year, a growth of 6% over last year. He stated that there is an ongoing recruitment campaign to add more qualified personnel and talents to the team and support the company's growth.

Focus on Emirati talent

The airline emphasizes its commitment to Emiratization by actively recruiting young Emirati talent. They aim to place them in suitable roles across various departments, fostering local youth employment.

Wide-body order

In a significant milestone for the company, Flydubai placed its first-ever order for wide-body aircraft at the 2023 Dubai Airshow. This historic order included 30 Boeing 787-9s, hinting at future fleet diversification and potential long-haul route expansion.
