UAE: National Media Office emphasises responsible social media use adhering to national values
It reiterates the strict prohibition of content that disrespects national symbols, public figures, or friendly nations and their communities

Abu Dhabi: The National Media Office (NMO) has underscored the importance of UAE social media users upholding national values, promoting respect, tolerance, and coexistence in the digital space.
In an official statement, the office stressed the necessity of adhering to ethical and legal standards when using social media platforms. It reiterated the strict prohibition of content that insults or disrespects national symbols, public figures, or friendly nations and their communities.
The NMO warned that, in collaboration with relevant authorities, it will take legal action against individuals who violate these guidelines. The UAE’s laws are designed to maintain a safe and balanced digital environment that fosters mutual respect and responsible discourse.
The statement also highlighted the legal consequences of sharing misleading information, hate speech, or defamatory content—whether directly, indirectly, or by implication—stating that such violations carry severe penalties.
Emirati identity
Reaffirming the responsibility of every individual in safeguarding the UAE’s reputation, the office echoed the words of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He emphasised that citizens serve as ambassadors of the UAE, urging them to reflect their national identity positively. “Every action you take, positive or negative, reflects your Emirati identity. We are all responsible for shaping the reputation of this country, as each of us is a guardian of its honour and standing,” he stated.
The NMO called on social media users to exercise caution and responsibility when sharing content, encouraging them to report offensive or non-compliant material through official channels. It reaffirmed its commitment to working with authorities to monitor violations and ensure a credible and responsible digital media landscape.
High ethical standards
Additionally, the office urged social media users to embody the humility and high ethical standards demonstrated by the UAE’s leadership. It emphasized that online behavior should align with the leadership’s vision of preserving authentic customs and values.
The statement also referenced the guidelines set by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, outlining key principles for Emirati social media presence. These include upholding the wisdom and ethics of the nation’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan; showcasing the UAE’s knowledge, culture, and civilization; refraining from insults or offensive language; fostering constructive discourse; and engaging positively with diverse ideas, cultures, and societies.
The NMO’s message serves as a reminder that responsible digital engagement is crucial in preserving the UAE’s esteemed reputation and values in an interconnected world.
