A new app unveiled at GITEX Global 2024 allows visitors to the UAE to register their personal data before arrival, enabling them to bypass traditional immigration lines and pass through smart gates with ease.
This innovation was announced at the largest technology event in the world, currently taking place in Dubai.
What does it offer?
The app, part of the 'UAE Fast Track' project, simplifies the arrival process for non-resident visitors by allowing them to pre-register their data. Upon arrival at UAE airports, visitors can directly access smart gates without needing to go through the conventional immigration procedures, eliminating lengthy queues.
How does it work?
Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director-General of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP), explained that the app is designed to enhance the UAE’s digital transformation in border control. Visitors will no longer need to physically register their details at passport control upon arrival. The app will streamline the entry process by collecting and verifying data before the traveller sets foot in the country.
The system is set to drastically reduce wait times, providing a seamless experience for tourists while improving efficiency for border control authorities. This smart initiative is expected to bring a significant boost to UAE tourism, making travel smoother and more efficient for millions of visitors.
When will it be implemented?
While no specific launch date was given during the announcement, the app is part of ongoing efforts to implement digital-first solutions throughout the UAE’s immigration systems. The ICP has already successfully implemented similar technology at Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi, where the Smart Travel project captures biometric data from travellers in motion, allowing them to proceed without showing passports or boarding passes.
How will this impact future travel to UAE?
The introduction of the new app represents a major step forward for UAE’s infrastructure and visitor management. With over 22 million annual international visitors, streamlining immigration processes through smart technology will not only enhance the country’s reputation as a top global destination but also reinforce its position as a leader in innovation.
For travellers, this means reduced wait times, fewer procedural hassles, and a more efficient journey from arrival to departure. By integrating pre-arrival data registration with biometric identification, the UAE aims to set a new standard for modern travel.
