How to apply for UAE’s Friend or Relative Visa online: A step-by-step guide
Now you can invite your loved ones for extended visits to the country
DUBAI: Residents in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) can now invite friends and family for extended visits of up to 90 days with the UAE Friend or Relative Visa.
The process is straightforward, entirely online, and designed to ensure convenience for all applicants.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to applying:
Step 1: Access the Online Portal
To begin, visit the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security’s website or download their official app. Log in using your UAE Pass or digital identity credentials to access the visa services section.
Step 2: Choose the Visa Type
Select the "Friend or Relative Visa" option from the available services. You will have two choices:
- Single-entry Visa: Ideal for one-time visits.
- Multiple-entry Visa: Allows flexibility for multiple trips.
Choose the duration of stay – either 30, 60, or 90 days – based on your needs.
Step 3: Prepare and Upload Required Documents
Ensure you have the necessary documents ready to upload:
- A passport valid for at least six months.
- A confirmed travel ticket.
- Valid health insurance covering the duration of the stay.
- Proof of relationship (first or second-degree relative or friend of a UAE resident/citizen).
- For residents sponsoring a visitor, your job classification (first or second level as per the authority) must meet eligibility criteria.
Step 4: Fill in Details and Verify Accuracy
Enter the visitor’s information, ensuring all details match official documents. Double-check passport numbers, names, and travel dates to avoid delays in processing.
Step 5: Submit Application and Pay Fees
Complete your application by paying the required visa fee using the secure payment gateway. Fees may vary depending on the visa type and duration. After payment, your application will be submitted for review.
Step 6: Track Your Application
Monitor your application status through the portal or app. Once approved, the visa will be sent electronically. Visitors must enter the UAE within 60 days of visa issuance.
Step 7: Extend or Manage the Visa
If needed, visitors can apply for an extension during their stay. Ensure they adhere to the visa’s validity period to avoid administrative penalties for overstaying.
Maj-Gen Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, director-general of the authority, has emphasised the importance of this service in fostering stronger family and social ties. The initiative also allows visitors to explore the UAE’s vibrant lifestyle, business opportunities, and cultural richness.
