Revolutionary network to serve 33% of the city by 2030
Dubai has marked another milestone in futuristic innovation with the launch of the Middle East’s first-of-its-kind drone delivery system.
Spearheaded by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the initiative aims to cover 33% of the city by 2030, setting a new benchmark in smart mobility and logistics.
Sheikh Hamdan initiated the system by placing the first-ever order via drones at the Rochester Institute of Technology-Dubai, located in Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO). The successful delivery showcased the readiness of Dubai’s advanced logistics network, developed in collaboration with leading public and private sector entities.
Vision for 2030
The ambitious drone delivery network is a part of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, designed to position Dubai among the top three global urban economies.

Speaking at the launch, Sheikh Hamdan highlighted Dubai’s commitment to integrating advanced technology, fostering public-private partnerships, and driving economic diversification.
“Our initiatives, such as the Dubai Programme to Enable Drone Transportation and the Robotics and Automation Program, are delivering transformative results. By 2033, we aim to double Dubai’s economy and cement its position as a leader in smart city solutions,” said the Crown Prince.
Future of smart mobility
The project, completed jointly by the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), and Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), integrates dedicated drone air routes into the existing airspace. These routes were tested rigorously at Dubai Silicon Oasis, ensuring the highest standards of aviation safety and efficiency.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the DCAA, emphasised the significance of this development. “Dubai’s leadership in aviation, logistics, and innovation has established it as a global hub for advanced air transport solutions,” he remarked.
Public-private partnerships
The programme underscores the importance of collaboration between government and private entities. Key stakeholders, including Emirates SkyCargo, Majid Al Futtaim, and Keeta Drone, played vital roles in bringing the initiative to life. Keeta Drone, a leading Chinese platform, conducted pilot operations, marking its first venture outside Greater China.
Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Executive Chairman of DIEZ, noted, “The launch at DSO solidifies its reputation as an international hub for smart technologies. We are committed to advancing the emirate’s strategy to make Dubai the world’s best place to live.”
Advanced technology
The drones feature cutting-edge flight control algorithms, low-noise propellers, and in-house developed multi-sensor fusion systems. These advancements enable seamless navigation in urban environments, setting a new standard for operational efficiency.
Dr. Yinian Mao of Keeta Drone expressed enthusiasm for expanding operations in the region. “Our collaboration with DIEZ reflects Dubai’s ideal environment for tech-driven growth,” he said.

As the system scales, its impact will extend far beyond logistics. Residents will experience improved delivery times, reduced carbon footprints, and enhanced quality of life. Meanwhile, the initiative bolsters Dubai’s global reputation as a leader in smart mobility and innovative urban solutions.
“Drone delivery will reach 33% of Dubai by 2030, reinforcing the emirate’s pioneering role in smart technologies,” said Mohammed Abdullah Linjawi, Director General of the DCAA.
