Dubai's Salik road toll system is undergoing a significant change with the introduction of variable pricing, starting January 31.

This new pricing model aims to reduce congestion and enhance traffic flow during peak hours, adjusting toll rates depending on the time of day.

Peak and Off-Peak Rates

Under the new system, toll charges will fluctuate throughout the day. During weekday peak hours – 6AM to 10AM in the morning and 4PM to 8PM in the evening – the toll will be set at Dh6.

Off-peak hours, spanning from 10AM to 4PM and 8PM to 1AM, will see the toll reduced to Dh4.

Sundays and Holidays

On Sundays, excluding public holidays or major events, the toll will remain Dh4 for the entire day, with a free period from 1AM to 6AM.

The introduction of this pricing aims to address congestion concerns, especially during rush hours, while maintaining accessibility during quieter periods.

Ramadan considerations

In line with its aim to create a consistent experience, Salik has adjusted its pricing for Ramadan. The toll will be Dh6 between 9AM and 5PM, while off-peak hours from 7AM to 9AM and 5PM to 2AM will be charged at Dh4.

On Sundays during Ramadan, the toll rate will remain Dh4 throughout the day, and it will be free from 2AM to 7AM.

Parking tariffs

Alongside these changes, Dubai plans to implement a new variable parking tariff system by March 2025. Premium parking spots will be charged at Dh6 per hour during peak hours (8 AM to 10 AM and 4 PM to 8 PM), while standard spaces will be Dh4 per hour. Off-peak hours will retain the same rates, and parking will be free overnight from 10 PM to 8 AM and on Sundays.

Event parking

Additionally, a congestion pricing policy will be applied to public parking near event venues starting with the Dubai World Trade Centre in February 2025. During major events, parking fees will rise to Dh25 per hour in these areas.

Salik's financial performance

Salik's toll-gate operations have seen impressive growth, with a reported 9-month net profit of Dh822 million for 2024, marking an increase from the previous year. Revenues for the period reached Dh1.64 billion, up from Dh1.54 billion in 2023.

Analysts predict Salik's revenue growth could reach 24-25% in 2025, buoyed by the addition of new toll gates, such as the Business Bay Crossing and Al Safa South gates.

Salik’s stock also saw a positive trajectory, closing at Dh5.1 on January 17, further reflecting investor confidence in the company’s performance.
