KARACHI: Naseer Soomro, one of the tallest men in the world, passed away in Sindh’s Shikarpur district on Monday at the age of 55.
His brother, Riaz Soomro, confirmed that he had been battling a lung disease for several months and was under treatment at home. His funeral prayers were held today in Shah Muhalla, Shikarpur.
Standing at an astonishing 7 feet 9 inches, Soomro was widely recognised as one of the tallest men in the world. His towering height brought international attention to Pakistan, earning him a place in the Guinness World Records. In recognition of his stature, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) offered him employment.
Health struggles
Soomro had suffered from severe respiratory issues, leading to frequent hospitalisations. Last year, he was admitted to a private hospital in Karachi, where he showed temporary signs of recovery. However, his condition deteriorated further in recent months, ultimately leading to his passing.
Nation pays tribute
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over his demise, offering condolences to his family and praying for the departed soul.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Governor Kamran Tessori, and other political leaders also paid tribute.
Soomro was laid to rest in Kadri Atta Muhammad Cemetery, Shikarpur, with a large gathering attending his funeral.
