Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled an innovative app-based bus pooling service, offering commuters a flexible, on-demand transportation option.

Designed to reduce traffic congestion and encourage sustainable travel, the project allows passengers to share minibus rides booked through smart apps.

'Bus Pool'

Starting in Deira, the service connects to key destinations like Business Bay, Dubai Mall, Mirdif, and Dubai Festival City. This initial phase aims to cater to the bustling central business districts while plans are underway for a city-wide expansion.

The service operates with variable fares based on travel distance and demand, offering commuters affordable alternatives to private cars or unlicensed transport.

Passengers can choose single trips or opt for weekly or monthly subscription plans, providing flexibility to suit different travel needs.

App integration

Minibuses are booked via three designated smart apps: Citylink Shuttle, DrivenBus, and Fluxx Daily. Each app is operated by one of the three companies managing 20 minibuses, ensuring smooth operations.

Seating capacity

These minibuses, accommodating between 13 and 30 passengers, are designed to cater to diverse user groups. The flexibility of pre-booking ensures passengers can avoid overcrowded transport.

Vision for sustainability

Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA’s Public Transport Agency, emphasised that the initiative aligns with Dubai’s long-term sustainability goals. “This service encourages commuters to choose licensed, eco-friendly transport options, reducing reliance on unlicensed alternatives and personal vehicles,” he said.

Traffic management

Bahrozyan highlighted the impact on traffic: “By offering flexible routes and pre-booked seats, the service eases congestion on Dubai’s roads and promotes a smooth flow of vehicles.”

Expansion plans

As demand grows, the RTA intends to broaden the service, integrating new routes and areas into the network. This move reflects Dubai’s commitment to becoming a leader in smart, sustainable urban mobility.
