The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has unveiled a comprehensive plan to enhance the quality of taxi services in the emirate.

These measures aim to provide passengers with a safer, cleaner, and more comfortable travel experience while also reinforcing Dubai’s commitment to sustainable transportation.

Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at the Public Transport Agency, shared details of the initiatives, emphasising their significance in elevating service standards.

Driver Training and Vehicle Cleanliness

The new measures include intensified awareness and training programmes for taxi drivers and instructors. These sessions are designed to educate drivers on the importance of maintaining professional standards and cleanliness.

To further enhance the experience, RTA is encouraging drivers to keep their vehicles spotless and has increased the provision of uniforms to promote professionalism.

RTA initiatives align with Dubai’s vision for a clean and sustainable transportation system.

AI-based Monitoring and Pilot Programmes

In a technological leap, RTA has launched a pilot programme to install AI-based in-car cameras capable of detecting smoking in vehicles. This initiative seeks to ensure a smoke-free environment for passengers.

Additionally, over 500 airport taxis have been equipped with high-quality air fresheners in a pilot phase aimed at providing a fresher, more pleasant atmosphere for travellers.

Customer-centric Metrics

The RTA has implemented a detailed operational index to track improvements in cleanliness standards. The index includes metrics such as vehicle and driver cleanliness observations per 100,000 Hala Taxi trips.

Shakri stated, “Customer satisfaction surveys and mystery shopper assessments focusing on vehicle and driver cleanliness will be conducted semi-annually starting in 2025. This will allow the RTA to gauge the success of these measures directly from the passengers.”

These efforts align with Dubai’s broader vision of creating a sustainable and clean transportation environment. Shakri highlighted that these initiatives represent RTA’s commitment to innovation and service excellence, ensuring that residents, tourists, and visitors enjoy a seamless experience.

“RTA’s unwavering efforts aim to enhance the quality of transportation services in Dubai, ensuring a safer and more comfortable journey for all passengers,” Shakri concluded.

By taking these steps, Dubai continues to set a benchmark for urban transport solutions, reinforcing its position as a global leader in sustainable development.
