ABU DHABI: Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of United Arab Emirates (UAE), has sent a congratulatory cable to Donald Trump on his swearing-in as the 47th President of the United States.

The message conveyed the UAE’s warm wishes for Trump’s success in his second term, emphasising the strength of bilateral ties between the two nations.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, also sent similar cables.

Trump returns to White House

Donald Trump, 78, took the oath of office in a ceremony held in the Capitol Rotunda on January 20, marking his second term as President. The event, attended by prominent figures including Vice President JD Vance, First Lady Melania Trump, and their families, was steeped in tradition.

Earlier in the day, Trump attended a service at St. John’s Episcopal Church, a longstanding tradition for incoming presidents. Vice President-elect JD Vance and his wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance, also joined the service. Following the event, outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Douglas Emhoff, hosted the Vances at the White House for a formal reception.

Historic swearing-in

The Capitol Rotunda saw Trump deliver a forceful inaugural address, vowing to reverse key policies of the Biden administration. “America’s decline is over,” Trump declared, framing his election as a mandate to restore the nation’s strength. His address highlighted a pro-business agenda, energy independence, and stronger border policies.

Trump’s speech struck a balance between optimism and resolve, promising a “thrilling new era” of national success. He also announced immediate executive orders aimed at reshaping key policies.

Celebrations and tradition

The day’s events included a troop review, inaugural luncheon, and a parade, featuring members of the Trump and Vance families. Celebrities such as country star Carrie Underwood and Jason Aldean performed, adding glamour to the celebrations.

Trump also participated in the signing ceremony in the President’s Room, a tradition initiated by Ronald Reagan. Among his first official acts were key nominations and executive proclamations.

Looking ahead

The festivities culminated in the Liberty Ball and Commander-in-Chief Ball, where Trump addressed attendees with promises of decisive action. He reiterated his vision of “common sense governance” aimed at transforming America’s future.

As the 47th President, Trump embarks on a second term amid heightened global attention, with both allies and rivals keenly observing his policies.
