Dubai is gearing up to celebrate Diwali 2024 with an action-packed programme of events that promises to dazzle both residents and tourists.

Running from 25 October to 7 November, the Festival of Lights will bring an array of entertainment, fireworks, and cultural experiences, uniting communities in the joyous celebration of Diwali.

Organised by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), this year’s festivities are set to be bigger and brighter, offering everything from family-friendly shows to vibrant markets and musical performances.

When and where to catch Diwali fireworks

The festivities will kick off with spectacular fireworks displays that light up Dubai’s night skies. On 25 October, Al Seef will host the first fireworks show, followed by dazzling displays at Global Village on 25-26 October and again on 1-2 November at 9pm. These events are free and open to everyone, making them perfect for families and friends to enjoy together.

What cultural experiences await you

One of the standout events this year is Noor – Festival of Lights, which will be held at Al Seef from 25-27 October. This vibrant cultural fair, curated by TeamWork Arts, will immerse visitors in the Diwali spirit with live performances, stunning light displays, and interactive workshops. Set against the backdrop of Al Seef’s beautifully decorated promenade, guests can enjoy everything from theatre shows and musical performances to poetry readings and traditional Indian delicacies.

Another highlight is Deepavali Utsav 2024, taking place on 26 October at Etisalat Academy. This event will offer a blend of traditional Indian folk dance, a funfair for children, and food stalls serving popular Indian street food, making it an evening of festivity for the entire family.

Dubai’s Diwali markets

For those looking to shop and savour, the Diwali markets are a must-visit. Global Village will host a Festival of Lights market from 28 October to 3 November, where visitors can enjoy colourful Rangoli displays, live performances, and endless shopping options. From handcrafted jewellery to festive wear, the market offers a one-of-a-kind Diwali shopping experience.

On 26 October, the Diwali Fiesta Exhibition at Pullman Dubai Jumeirah Lakes Towers will feature a curated selection of fashion, accessories, and home décor, perfect for those looking to indulge in festive luxury. The same day will also see the Diwali Edit – Fashion & Luxury Exhibition at DoubleTree by Hilton M Square, showcasing top designers and unique pieces.

Comedy and Music

Comedy fans are in for a treat as British comedian Romesh Ranganathan returns to Dubai for a one-night-only show at Coca-Cola Arena on 25 October. Known for his sharp wit, Romesh will bring his signature brand of observational humour to the stage, promising an evening of non-stop laughs.

For music lovers, "The Unforgettables" concert series at Sheikh Rashid Auditorium, running until 26 October, will pay homage to the legendary Indian singer Jagjit Singh. Featuring the talented Tauseef Akhtar, a protégé of Singh, this soulful concert is a must-see for fans of Indian classical music.

What’s on for theatre enthusiasts

Theatre lovers can look forward to Meera: Echoes of Love, a captivating performance blending dance, theatre, and music, set to take the stage at Dubai British School, Jumeirah Park on 26 October. Featuring 70 local artists, the show celebrates love, devotion, and the strength of women.

Additionally, Saurabh Shukla’s critically acclaimed thriller Barff will hit Zabeel Theatre on 8 November. Known for his role in Slumdog Millionaire, Shukla will direct and star in this suspense-filled play that’s sure to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
