ABU DHABI: With multiple peak travel periods approaching, Etihad Airways has issued a travel advisory urging passengers to plan ahead for a smooth journey.
The UAE’s national flag carrier anticipates a sharp rise in travellers at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport between March and August, particularly during Eid Al Fitr in late March, Hajj Season in May, and Eid Al Adha in early June. School breaks in spring and summer will further contribute to the surge.
To manage the increased demand, Etihad Airways is promoting the use of digital services and early check-in options. Captain Majed Al Marzouqi, Interim Chief Operations & Guest Officer, stated, “We are preparing to welcome thousands of additional guests during these peak periods. Our teams are fully prepared to ensure every journey begins smoothly, and we recommend travellers take advantage of our numerous check-in options and digital tools to enjoy a relaxed start to their holidays.”
Check-in options
Passengers are encouraged to arrive at the airport at least four hours before departure during these busy times. To reduce waiting times, the airline offers several early check-in solutions:
Online check-in: Available 48 hours before departure via the Etihad Airways website or mobile app.
Airport self-service bag drops: Passengers who check in online can print baggage tags and boarding passes within minutes.
Off-airport check-in: Several facilities are available for early baggage drop-off, including:
- Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal (24 hours)
- The Fountains – YAS Mall (10 am – 10 pm)
- Mussafah (10 am – 10 pm, Behind Al Madina Hypermarket)
- Al Ain (10 am – 10 pm, Lulu Hypermarket Kuwaitat, Shakhboot Bin Sultan St)
Additionally, passengers can opt for home check-in through MORAFIQ, with services starting from Dh185. This option allows travellers to check in their baggage, select seats, and receive boarding passes from their doorstep up to five hours before departure.
Enhanced travel comfort
To enhance passenger comfort, Etihad Airways offers various pre-purchase options, including:
- Economy Extra Legroom for additional space
- Neighbour-free Seat selection available up to 72 hours before departure
- Access to premium lounges in First and Business Class, which can be purchased up to 90 minutes before departure
For travellers heading to the US, the airline reminds them to check in at Terminal A at least four hours before departure. Guests flying in First, Business, or The Residence class should arrive at the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Preclearance facility 90 minutes before departure, while all other travellers must arrive two hours before. The facility closes one hour before takeoff.
In 2023, Abu Dhabi’s five aviation hubs served 29.4 million passengers, a figure expected to rise in 2025.
