Dubai: The Emirates is experiencing a surge in its Unaccompanied Minors Service as thousands of children return to Dubai from their summer vacations. The airline is set to welcome more than 900 young flyers in the coming week alone, providing them with a safe and enjoyable travel experience.
Over the past five years, Emirates has proudly cared for more than 120,000 children traveling alone. The majority of these young travellers are 11 years old or younger, with British, Indian, American, Filipino, and French families being the most frequent users of the service.
A comprehensive care package
When children embark on a journey without their families, Emirates is there every step of the way. For those aged 5 to 11, the Unaccompanied Minors Service ensures a supervised and safe trip, filled with fun and memorable moments.
Minors Lounge
At Dubai International Airport, parents and guardians can drop off their young flyers at the dedicated Unaccompanied Minors Lounge. The lounge offers a comfortable and relaxing environment with video games, free Wi-Fi, and complimentary snacks and drinks. Emirates staff provide constant supervision, ensuring children feel safe and secure.
Expert care from check-in to destination
From the moment they enter the airport, children are accompanied by a trained Emirates specialist. The specialist guides them through the check-in process, security, and immigration, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free experience. On board the flight, Emirates cabin crew provide attentive care, ensuring the child's comfort and well-being.
Fun and entertainment onboard
Emirates offers a variety of onboard activities to keep young flyers entertained. Children can enjoy complimentary toys, over 100 video games, and a vast selection of children's content on the award-winning inflight entertainment system, ice. Additionally, Emirates can arrange birthday celebrations with a cake and Polaroid photos to create lasting memories.
Support for older children and teens
Children aged 12 to 15 can also travel alone without utilizing the Unaccompanied Minors Service. However, parents and guardians can request additional support for their solo travelers. For a fee of USD 50 per leg, Emirates will provide the same comprehensive care as offered to younger children.
Connecting flights and safety protocols
Emirates prioritizes the safety and security of all young passengers. For connecting flights, there is a maximum connection time of 8 hours at Dubai International Airport. Children will be escorted to the Unaccompanied Minors Lounge during longer connection times. Overnight stays at connecting airports are not permitted unless an adult guardian is arranged.
Booking and fares
To avail of the Unaccompanied Minors Service, children aged 5 to 11 must travel on an adult fare. They can also travel in a different cabin class from their parent or guardian but will be charged the adult fare. The service can be booked up to 12 hours before departure through Emirates LiveChat, by calling 00971600555555, or at any local Emirates office.
