Dubai: Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan is making a grand return to the UAE as he takes center stage to host the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards, which will be held this year at Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The event, scheduled from September 27 to 29 at the Etihad Arena, promises a vibrant showcase of Indian cinema, beginning with IIFA Utsavam—a tribute to the dynamic South Indian film industries.
The Raees actor has been a key figure in IIFA since its inception in 2000, having played multiple roles as a host, performer, and award winner. At the 2017 edition in New York, Khan was honored with a special tribute for his 25-year journey in the film industry. Among his accolades from IIFA are Best Actor awards for Devdas (2003), Veer-Zaara (2005), and My Name is Khan (2011), reflecting his enduring presence on the cinematic stage.
Some of Khan’s performances remain iconic, with his 2005 tribute to Veer-Zaara and a 2013 medley of hits still etched in the memories of fans. Speaking about the upcoming event, Khan said, “I am thrilled to bring the energy, passion, and grandeur of IIFA back to life as we prepare for a spectacular celebration of Indian cinema this September!”
Joining Khan, filmmaker Karan Johar, who is also returning as host, shared his enthusiasm: “Brace yourselves for an extraordinary experience—we’re ready to light up Yas Island, Abu Dhabi like never before!”
The IIFA extravaganza will continue with the main awards night on September 28 and will culminate on September 29 with the exclusive, invite-only IIFA Rocks event. As one of Bollywood’s most anticipated festivals, this year’s edition is shaping up to be a star-studded affair that promises unmatched glitz, glamour, and entertainment.
