DUBAI: Air India Express, a subsidiary of Air India, has introduced an impressive enhancement to its baggage policies, benefiting families, frequent flyers, and business travellers alike.
Effective immediately, passengers on international flights to the Middle East and Singapore can now enjoy expanded baggage allowances and flexible fare options.
Travellers can carry up to 30kg of free check-in baggage, along with 7kg of cabin baggage. For parents travelling with infants, the total baggage allowance increases to 47kg, which includes 10kg exclusively for the infant. These changes reflect the airline’s focus on catering to its diverse customer base, offering comfort and affordability.
Enhanced comfort for premium travellers
Passengers opting for Xpress Biz, the business-class service offered by Air India Express, benefit from increased baggage limits, with check-in allowances rising to 40kg. In addition to enhanced baggage benefits, premium travellers enjoy recliner seats with a 58-inch pitch, priority check-in, boarding services, and gourmet meals through the airline's "Gourmair" service.
The airline’s budget-conscious travellers are not left out either. For those flying without check-in baggage, Air India Express has rolled out its Xpress Lite fare, which offers lower ticket prices and a complimentary 3kg additional cabin baggage allowance.
Expanded network and growing fleet
Currently operating 450 weekly flights between India and the Middle East, Air India Express connects 19 Indian cities to 13 destinations in the Gulf region. The airline also operates 26 weekly flights linking Singapore to South Indian cities like Chennai, Madurai, and Tiruchirappalli.
Recent expansions have added popular destinations such as Bangkok and Phuket to the airline’s growing network. The Middle East remains a key focus area, with additional flights to Abu Dhabi, Dammam, Muscat, and Ras Al Khaimah. This increased connectivity underscores the airline’s commitment to serving both business and leisure travellers.
Convenient baggage policies
Air India Express has gone a step further to accommodate passengers with specific needs. Travellers can now purchase additional cabin baggage allowances of up to 5kg through the Xtra Carry-On service. Musical instruments are permitted as cabin baggage if they fit within dimensions of 56cm x 36cm x 23cm, while larger instruments can be carried by purchasing an extra seat or as checked-in baggage for a nominal fee.
Families travelling with infants enjoy unique privileges. Alongside the additional 10kg allowance, passengers are allowed to carry two pieces of cabin baggage, with a combined weight not exceeding 7kg. The flexibility extends to personal items like laptop bags, handbags, or backpacks, as long as they fit under the seat in front.
Strategic growth and fleet expansion
With a fleet comprising 90 aircraft – 61 Boeing 737s and 29 Airbus A320s – Air India Express is rapidly expanding. The airline plans to reach a fleet size of 100 by the end of the financial year. This growth aligns with a 30 percent increase in daily flights compared to the previous year, with over 400 flights now operating daily.
