Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated a major bridge aimed at improving traffic movement from Infinity Bridge through Al Mina Street to the intersection of Sheikh Rashid Road and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street. The newly opened 1,210-metre bridge features three lanes and can accommodate up to 4,800 vehicles per hour.

The opening marks a significant milestone in Phase 4 of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, which extends 4.8 km along Sheikh Rashid Road, from its intersection with Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street to the Falcon Intersection on Al Mina Street. This phase includes the construction of five bridges totaling 3.1 km, collectively handling 19,400 vehicles per hour.

Al Shindagha Corridor

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, stated: "The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project is being executed under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, with close follow-up from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. This initiative is designed to support ongoing urban development while catering to Dubai's growing urban and population demands."

Al Tayer emphasized that the newly opened bridge significantly improves connectivity by enhancing traffic flow from Infinity Bridge via Al Mina Street to Sheikh Rashid Road and its intersection with Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street. The bridge also enhances accessibility to key residential and commercial areas, including Al Hudaiba, Al Raffa, Al Jafiliya, Al Mankhool, Al Kifaf, and Al Karama.

"RTA has completed 90% of Phase 4, with the remaining two bridges set to open in the second quarter of this year. The first of these bridges, measuring 780 metres, features three lanes and supports a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour, improving traffic movement from Infinity Bridge through Al Mina Street toward Al Wasl Street. The second bridge, spanning 985 metres, has two lanes and can handle 3,200 vehicles per hour, facilitating traffic from Jumeirah Street to Al Mina Street and Falcon Intersection," Al Tayer added.

Earlier bridges

In December, RTA launched a 1,335-metre bridge featuring three lanes and a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour. This bridge has significantly enhanced traffic movement from the intersection of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street with Sheikh Rashid Road towards Al Mina Street, Falcon Intersection, and Infinity Bridge, contributing to smoother traffic circulation between Sheikh Rashid Road and Deira.

Earlier this year, RTA also inaugurated a 605-metre bridge with two lanes, designed to accommodate 3,200 vehicles per hour, improving traffic flow from Al Mina Street's intersection with Sheikh Rashid Road to the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street intersection.

Major Development Impact

The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project is one of RTA’s largest infrastructure projects, spanning 13 kilometres along Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street, and Cairo Street. It involves the construction and enhancement of 15 intersections, with the project divided into five phases due to its scale and complexity.

The corridor is expected to enhance connectivity between Deira and Bur Dubai while supporting key developments such as Dubai Islands, Deira Waterfront, Dubai Maritime City, and Port Rashid. Once completed, the project will benefit around one million residents, significantly improving travel times by reducing the journey between key points from 104 minutes to just 16 minutes by 2030. Additionally, the project is expected to enhance road safety and deliver an estimated AED 45 billion in economic benefits over the next 20 years.
