Sharjah’s Human Resources Department has announced a five-day break for government employees in celebration of Eid Al Etihad.

The holiday will span from Saturday, November 30, to Tuesday, December 3, with regular work resuming on Wednesday, December 4.

This decision aligns with the UAE government’s declaration of December 2 and 3 as public holidays for all government employees. As Sharjah’s official weekend runs from Friday to Sunday, the combined holidays create an extended break unique to the emirate.

Eid Al Etihad holidays

Across the UAE, public sector employees will observe a four-day long weekend, with December 2 and 3 marking the official Eid Al Etihad holiday. The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources confirmed the schedule, ensuring uniformity in celebrating the UAE’s 53rd National Day.

Private sector employees will also receive December 2 and 3 as paid holidays, as confirmed by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE). Regular operations will resume for most on December 4, enabling workers across sectors to enjoy a long weekend.

UAE’s National Day

The UAE’s National Day, rebranded as Eid Al Etihad (Festival of the Union), underscores national unity. The name change aims to strengthen inclusivity and pride among citizens and residents.

Eisa Alsubousi, Director of Strategic and Creative Affairs for the 53rd Eid Al Etihad Celebration, remarked: “This is a significant moment as we celebrate the unification of the seven Emirates. We encourage everyone to join us in marking this historic celebration in ways that are conscious and sustainable.”

This year’s celebrations will focus on sustainability, with government campaigns encouraging residents to adopt eco-conscious practices. Resources are being provided to minimise waste during festivities.

Residents and visitors can look forward to a range of eco-friendly and cultural activities, including fireworks, musical performances, and community parades. Dubai’s light and laser show at Festival City Mall and the Firdaus Orchestra concerts at EXPO City Dubai are among the highlights.

Eid Al Etihad in Sharjah

In Sharjah, the ongoing #ZayedAndRashid campaign will culminate in exhibitions and parades honouring the UAE’s founding leaders. Locations like the Etihad Museum and Hatta Heritage Village will host events that reflect the nation’s unity and progress.

Retail hubs and food festivals will also contribute to the celebratory spirit. Special Eid Al Etihad editions of Dubai’s Beach Canteen and Ripe Market will offer gourmet dishes and artisanal goods. Retail promotions and hotel discounts further enhance the holiday experience.
