Dubai: Tourists to UAE do not need to worry to stay connected to their loved ones and friends as they can now get free eSIM with 10GP data as they enter the country.
Launched by e&, the instant eSIM will allow visitors to use 10GB of data and use internet and social media freely. The eSIM is available once you pass through immigration counters at all airports in the UAE. All you have to do is scan a QR code and connect via facial recognition technology.
The free instant tourist eSIM can be self-activated by scanning a QR code and completing the necessary facial recognition steps.
How can I get the eSIM?
The free instant eSIM can be self-activated as soon as you pass through immigration at a UAE airport. You will be able to spot the QR code available on ads that have been displayed at the airports and even at some Metro stations and shopping malls. Alternatively, you can visit the webpage here: https://www.etisalat.ae/en/c/mobile/plans/visitor-line.html and select the eSIM package.
The eSIM is activated through facial recognition, making it easier to install. It is important to note that while the eSIM is free, with a 10GB data allowance, the data is only available to use for one day, after which, you will need to purchase a data plan that suits your needs.
The eSIM offer is part of the mobile phone provider’s Free Visitor Line eSIMS service.
Khaled ElKhouly, Chief Consumer Officer of e& UAE, said the new offering helps reinforce the UAE as a top destination.
He said: “The introduction of a self-activation feature for our Free Visitor Line eSIMs is an important milestone in our journey towards digital transformation. This exemplifies our commitment to innovation while reinforcing our dedication to providing exceptional convenience for our customers.
“As the UAE continues to be a premier destination for tourists worldwide, we believe this initiative sets a new standard for mobile connectivity. We are proud to lead the way in offering such advanced solutions to our valued visitors.”
How does an eSIM work?
An eSIM is a digital SIM card that can be downloaded and activated on your phone, without the need for a physical SIM card. You would, however, need to check if your phone supports eSIMs, by following these steps:
Apple devices
Go to Settings > Cellular.
Scroll down and if you see an ‘Add eSIM’ option, you can use an eSIM on your phone.
Android devices
Go to Settings > Connections > MobiSIM manager
Look for the option ‘Add eSIM’. If it's available, your device supports eSIMs.
