Sharjah: In order to protect rights of both landlord and tenants, His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued a law establishing a rental dispute settlement centre in the emirate.
According to the law, a judicial body will be called the Rental Dispute Settlement Centre. The centre will enjoys legal status and full legal capacity necessary to fulfill its objectives and exercise its powers. It will operate under the umbrella of the Sharjah Municipality.
Rental disputes
The centre will be responsible for settling legal cases related to rental disputes within its jurisdiction.
Main objectives
Establish a specialised judicial system to address disputes arising from rental relationships in the emirate.
Enhance and expedite procedures for resolving rental disputes
Ensuring prompt justice and high-quality judgments at all stages of litigation.
Contribute to the sustainable development of the real estate sector and support the emirate's economy.
The Rental Dispute Settlement Centre will develop general policies and propose necessary legislation to enhance the centre’s operations and regulate real estate rental relations within the emirate.
The new body will review and resolve disputes arising from rental relationships, including bounced checks, compensation claims, and related real estate mediation in the emirate or free zones, except for areas governed by specialized committees or judicial bodies dedicated to resolving rental disputes within their boundaries.
It Issue and enforce decisions and judgments rendered by the centre and adjudicate requests for temporary and urgent measures.
Undertake any additional tasks assigned by the Ruler or the Executive Council.
