Dubai's car enthusiasts and collectors are in for a high-octane event this weekend as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) gears up for its 118th open auction of distinctive vehicle plate numbers.

Slated for Saturday, April 26, the event will take place at the Grand Hyatt Dubai Hotel, with bidding set to commence at 4:30PM sharp.

A total of 90 unique plates will be offered, ranging from two-digit to five-digit combinations and covering an extensive list of codes including AA, BB, CC, I, J, O, P, T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z.

Super numbers on show

Among the most coveted entries are the super numbers BB 19, BB 20, and CC 22, expected to stir considerable competition among attendees. These plates, known for their rarity and prestige, often fetch eye-watering sums – such as the Dh7.32 million paid for AA 16 in a previous auction. The exclusivity of these combinations makes them particularly attractive to high-profile collectors, entrepreneurs, and number plate enthusiasts aiming to make a statement on the road.

How to participate

Registration for the auction opened on April 21 and can be completed through the RTA’s official website, the RTA mobile app, or in person at Customer Happiness Centres located in Umm Ramool, Deira, and Al Barsha. For those making a last-minute decision, onsite registration will be available at the auction venue starting from 2:00PM on the day itself. However, seats are limited, and priority will be given to pre-registered bidders.

Requirements and fees

To participate, bidders must have an active traffic file in Dubai. A security cheque of Dh25,000 made payable to the RTA is required, along with a non-refundable registration fee of Dh120. Payments can be made either online, via the RTA app, or at the designated Customer Happiness Centres. It’s worth noting that all purchases made at the auction will be subject to a 5% VAT.
