DUBAI: A major new pop culture event is set to debut in Dubai this week, celebrating anime, gaming, cosplay, and Japanese cultural experiences over three vibrant days.
The JPEX Entertainment Exhibition (JPEX) will run from 25th to 27th April at the Dubai Exhibition Centre in Expo City, offering an immersive, fan-driven showcase for all ages.
Unlike other large-scale conventions, JPEX stands out for being entirely founded and independently organised by four young Emirati entrepreneurs. With no corporate sponsors or backing from established event companies, this grassroots initiative was created by fans, for fans.
The founders aim to make JPEX a cornerstone of the region’s growing pop culture landscape, a space where global and local communities can unite through shared passions.
Star-studded line-up
A major draw for attendees will be the international and regional voice actors making rare appearances in the UAE. Among the most anticipated guests is Hiroshi Kitadani, the celebrated vocalist behind several theme songs for the anime phenomenon One Piece. Ryusei Nakao, best known for voicing Frieza (Dragon Ball Z), Mayuri (Bleach), and Caesar Clown (One Piece), will also join the lineup.
Fans of Naruto, Persona 4, and Free! can look forward to seeing Showtaro Morikubo, the versatile voice actor behind Shikamaru Nara, Yosuke Hanamura, and Makoto. Adding a regional flair is Amal Saadeddin, a household name among Arabic-speaking anime fans, whose roles include Detective Conan, Pokémon, and Doraemon. These talents will feature in stage performances, live voice acting segments, and meet-and-greet sessions.
Cosplay, gaming, culture
Beyond the star-studded panels, JPEX will feature dynamic cosplay competitions judged by an international panel. Gaming fans can take part in tournaments spanning Tekken, FC 25, Super Smash Bros., Pokémon TCG, and One Piece TCG.
The event will also offer a deeper cultural dive with traditional Japanese experiences such as tea ceremonies, kimono dress-ups, and calligraphy workshops. A dedicated artist alley and vendor marketplace will showcase original artworks and collectibles, while themed food courts, photo zones, and interactive booths promise non-stop entertainment for attendees.
