Dubai: Here is what you need to know about new speed limits on key roads
Speed limits on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan and Al Amardi Streets adjusted
Dubai. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in coordination with the Dubai Police General HQ, has announced new speed limits for Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street and Al Amardi Street, following a comprehensive study aimed at enhancing road safety and improving traffic flow. The revisions, set to take effect on 30th September 2024,
-
The speed limit on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will rise to 100 km/h between Dubai Al Ain Road and the Academic City Roundabout.
-
Between the Academic City Roundabout and Al Khawaneej Street, the limit will be set at 90 km/h.
-
Meanwhile, Al Amardi Street will have a uniform speed limit of 90 km/h between Al Khawaneej Street and Emirates Road.
Both streets have seen major infrastructure improvements, including lane expansions and intersection upgrades, designed to accommodate increasing traffic volumes and ensure smoother transit.
Global best practices
The decision to adjust the speed limits is rooted in the Dubai Speed Management Manual, which incorporates global best practices to establish clear standards for balancing speed regulation, traffic flow, and safety.
The manual considers multiple factors when setting speed limits, including road design, driver behavior, urban development, and traffic accident data.
Signage and road markings to be updated
In preparation for the speed limit changes, the RTA will replace all relevant road signs and markings on the affected streets.
These updates will follow the highest standards of traffic safety to ensure drivers are aware of the new limits starting 30th September 2024.
