Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) organized a conference in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday to strengthen control systems and reduce the risks of food fraud in the region. The conference brought together regulators from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, experts from global regulatory authorities, and representatives of authorities at the UAE level and the private sector.

The conference, held under the slogan "Together to combat food fraud," aimed to facilitate knowledge exchange and enhance food safety. The platform allowed the participants to discuss ways to protect consumers and the food sector and raise awareness of the dangers of food fraud.

Implementation of anti-food fraud procedures

The conference addressed the implementation of anti-food fraud procedures at the national level and shared information and experiences among participating authorities on detecting food fraud and assessing its impact on food supply chains.

Developing a roadmap for collective work

Dr Mariam Hareb Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director General for Operational Affairs at ADAFSA, stressed the conference's importance in developing a roadmap for collective work at the local and regional levels to monitor and combat food fraud practices.

Dr. Al Suwaidi emphasized that ADAFSA promotes food safety and health and protects consumers from food fraud risks. She added that the conference provided a valuable platform for dialogue for all food sector stakeholders in the GCC countries to discuss global food fraud challenges, exchange best practices to protect consumers and establishments from falling victim to it and reduce its spread.

ADAFSA also organized an exhibition showcasing the latest technologies for detecting food fraud. ADAFSA experts presented several papers and presentations on its efforts in combating food fraud.
