The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan has launched an eVisa service for residents of UAE, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Singapore, South Africa, Cambodia, Canada, Mongolia, the UK, and the USA. Residents of these countries can now apply for this single-entry tourist visa online, which provides up to a 90-day stay in Japan. The applicant must not have any criminal record, violation, or deportation.
Individuals with dual nationalities, including Japanese citizenship, are not eligible to apply for this visa.
Residents must file applications at least seven days before travelling.
The purpose of an e-visa is to make tourism easy and hassle-free. It allows international visitors to submit their applications and documents online. According to the official website of the Japanese embassy in Dubai, the e-visa can take around four weeks to process.
The following documents are required to apply for the eVisa:
- Passport
- Photo
- Emirates ID
- Itinerary with flight details
- Personal bank statement from UAE bank for the last three months
- Certificate of employment, with position and monthly salary
- Stay and hotel information
- Document to prove legal residency

- The first step is to check your documents on the Japan eVisa website
- Make a username and password
- Click on new registration and fill out the application form
- Fill out details and travel information
- Once the submit button is clicked, the status of the application will be 'Temporarily received'. The application will be examined, and the applicant may be asked to submit additional documents.
- Pay the visa fee (if eligible). Once paid confirmation is issued
