UAE unveils new Dh100 polymer banknote ahead of Eid Al Fitr 2025
Design highlights national landmarks and economic progress

ABU DHABI: Just in time for Eid Al Fitr 2025, the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has unveiled a newly designed Dh100 polymer banknote.
The note, launched as part of the Third Issuance of the National Currency Project, entered circulation on March 24 (Monday), coexisting with the current Dh100 notes.
The front of the new banknote showcases the Umm Al Quwain National Fort, an important cultural and historical landmark, while the reverse features two symbols of the UAE’s modern development – the Port of Fujairah and the Etihad Rail network. The new design retains the signature red colour of the Dh100 denomination to maintain familiarity among the public.
Enhanced security features
The latest Dh100 note is embedded with cutting-edge security elements, including SPARK Flow DIMENSIONS technology and KINEGRAM COLORS, making it more resistant to counterfeiting. Additionally, the note incorporates Braille symbols to aid visually impaired individuals in identifying its value.
The polymer material ensures a longer lifespan compared to traditional paper banknotes, lasting at least twice as long in circulation. The CBUAE has emphasised the environmental benefits of the polymer, reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to sustainability and its Net Zero initiatives.
Rollout and banking readiness
The new banknotes are available through banks and exchange houses across the country. Financial institutions have been directed to recalibrate their cash deposit machines and counting devices to accept both the new and existing Dh100 banknotes.
Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the CBUAE, highlighted the significance of the launch, stating, “The new 100 dirham banknote reflects our commitment to the leadership’s vision for a sustainable future through initiatives and achievements that support Net Zero and enhance the nation’s financial competitiveness.”
CBUAE’s polymer banknote series has already received international recognition, winning the ‘Best New Banknote’ award at the High-Security Printing EMEA conferences in 2023 and 2025 for its Dh500 and Dh1,000 polymer banknotes.
