DUBAI: The Dubai Esports and Games Festival (DEF) is set to return for its highly anticipated fourth edition, running from April 25 to May 11.
Organised by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), the 17-day event promises an exhilarating mix of gaming, esports, and entertainment, solidifying Dubai’s reputation as a leading global gaming hub.
DEF 2025 will bring together professional gamers, industry experts, and gaming enthusiasts for a packed programme featuring tournaments, interactive experiences, and networking opportunities. Attendees can look forward to exclusive meet-and-greet sessions with top creators, world-first game showings, and the return of fan-favourite events, including GameExpo, GameExpo Summit, Dubai Cosplay Championship, and Play Beyond.
Last year’s edition was a resounding success, attracting over 28,000 visitors from more than 100 nationalities. Over 3.6 million players participated in 16 regional tournaments, while the DEF Education Programme engaged 6,000 students from 230 schools and universities through career talks, skills workshops, and challenges. The festival also hosted 2,000 industry professionals, reinforcing Dubai’s growing influence in the gaming sector.

GameExpo 2025
GameExpo 2025 will take place at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) Zabeel Halls 2 and 3 from 9 to 11 May, featuring eight distinct gaming zones. Visitors can enjoy high-stakes esports tournaments, casual family-friendly games, retro arcade experiences, VR encounters, and tabletop challenges.
New additions this year include The Quest: The New IRL Zone and Just Dance Zone, alongside popular returning areas such as the Main Arena, Gaming District, Emirates NBD Family Zone, and Retro Zone. The event will also feature The Narrows, a marketplace showcasing cutting-edge merchandise, gaming innovations, and industry trends. Local vendors, creators, and small businesses will have the opportunity to display their latest offerings, contributing to the region’s dynamic gaming ecosystem.

Tickets for GameExpo 2025 are now available, with early bird discounts in place. One-day passes start from Dh29 for students and Dh44 for adults, while three-day passes are available from Dh49 for students and Dh99 for adults. Fans can opt for the exclusive Pro Gamer Experience ticket, priced at Dh149, which includes special one-day access and meet-and-greet sessions with gaming influencers. High-stakes eSports battles
Play Beyond, taking place on 10 and 11 May at DWTC, will see top regional and global gamers battle it out in thrilling competitions. Fans can watch their favourite esports stars compete for the Play Beyond trophy while enjoying exclusive meet-and-greet opportunities. Selected attendees will even have the chance to step onto the main stage and participate in interactive gameplay alongside influencers, making for an unforgettable experience.
Dubai Cosplay Championship
Anime, movie, and video game fans will have their moment in the spotlight at the Dubai Cosplay Championship, set for 10 May at DWTC. Participants will compete for cash prizes, showcasing their creativity and craftsmanship in the Cosplay Competition. The event will also feature the Daily Cosplay Catwalk, open to all attendees who want to display their costumes and talent.
Cosplay enthusiasts will have the opportunity to meet top cosplayers, gain insights into costume design, and celebrate the vibrant world of cosplay through live performances and interactive sessions.
Educational engagement programme
DEF 2025 will continue to nurture young talent through its Educational Engagement Programme, running until May 2025. The initiative combines education and entertainment, offering students hands-on experience through competitions such as the Minecraft Education Challenge and the ENBD Fortnite Quest. The GameOn with HP Gaming Garage hackathon will provide aspiring developers with training in coding, game design, and prototype creation.
A new addition, Game Quest Express, will introduce students to immersive gaming experiences. Schools can also benefit from in-class visits featuring expert-led workshops on career opportunities in the gaming and esports industry. Registration for all competitions and activities is now open.
GameExpo Summit
Powered by Pocket Gamer Connects and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), the GameExpo Summit will take place on 7 and 8 May at DWTC Zabeel Hall 1. The summit will gather over 100 expert speakers from the global gaming industry to discuss key topics such as AI, Web3, mobile gaming, and the growth of the MENA gaming sector.
The event will feature themed conference tracks on investment strategies, advancements in the Metaverse, and future gaming technologies. Attendees will have access to high-value networking sessions, business matchmaking, and deal-making opportunities, making the summit a must-attend for developers, publishers, investors, and entrepreneurs.
A highlight of the summit will be the MENA Games Awards, recognising innovation and excellence within the regional gaming landscape. Industry leaders will discuss the latest trends, investment prospects, and groundbreaking technologies shaping the future of gaming.
