DUBAI: The UAE Council for Fatwa has urged all citizens and residents to observe the crescent moon of Ramadan 1446 AH on the evening of Friday, 29 Sha’ban 1446 AH, corresponding to February 28, 2025.

The Ramadan Crescent Sighting Committee, affiliated with the Council, is responsible for verifying the sighting, which determines the beginning of the holy month. Individuals who spot the crescent are encouraged to report their observations by calling 027774647 or submitting their sightings online. .

Ramadan 2025 in UAE

If the crescent is seen after the Maghrib prayer on February 28, Ramadan will officially begin on Saturday, March 1. However, if the moon remains unseen, the holy month will commence on Sunday, March 2.

Islamic months follow the Hijri calendar, spanning 29 or 30 days, and are determined based on lunar sightings. The UAE’s International Astronomy Centre has predicted that Ramadan is likely to begin on March 1.

Working hours in Ramadan

As the nation prepares for the month of fasting, the UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources has announced revised working hours for government employees. The private sector will also observe reduced hours, with workdays shortened by two hours.

Regional moon sighting

Saudi Arabia has also called on all Muslims to participate in the crescent moon sighting on February 28. Across the region, religious authorities and astronomy centres will monitor the skies, ensuring accurate confirmation of Ramadan’s arrival.
