Where to catch UAE’s new high-speed passenger trains
First four Etihad Rail passenger stations revealed
DUBAI: If you’ve ever wished for a faster, more efficient way to travel across the UAE, your dream is closer than ever to becoming a reality.
Etihad Rail is revolutionising inter-emirate travel with its ambitious high-speed passenger train network. Soon, zipping between Abu Dhabi and Dubai will take just 30 minutes, thanks to cutting-edge trains designed to travel at speeds of up to 350 km/h.
The Etihad Rail network is as environmentally friendly as it is efficient. Running entirely on electricity, it will help reduce carbon emissions, aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 goals. Over the next 50 years, the rail project is expected to contribute Dh145 billion ($39.4 billion) to the national GDP.
But where can you board this exciting new service? Here’s everything you need to know about the UAE’s first passenger stations and what they’ll offer.
Where can you board?
The first phase of the Etihad Rail passenger network includes major stations strategically located to serve residents, tourists, and commuters. Here’s a look at the planned locations:
Abu Dhabi: Stations will be located at iconic spots like Reem Island, Saadiyat Island, and Yas Island, ensuring seamless connectivity to both business districts and leisure hubs.
Dubai: Stops are set to include Al Maktoum International Airport and Al Jaddaf, making it easier than ever to access key transit and urban areas.
Sharjah & Fujairah: These stations will extend the network’s reach to the northern emirates, connecting them to this modern rail system.
To make your journey even smoother, each station will integrate with existing metro and bus services, ensuring a hassle-free connection to your final destination.
Fast, stylish, and eco-friendly
These high-speed trains aren’t just about speed – they’re about luxury and sustainability. Designed to carry up to 400 passengers, they will offer family-friendly areas, business lounges, ample space and modern amenities, including Wi-Fi and charging points.
If you’re traveling shorter distances, a regular-speed train (up to 200 km/h) will also connect all seven emirates. This network is part of a larger vision to eventually link the UAE with the GCC region, making international rail travel a reality.
Progress and launch timeline
Although the official launch date for passenger services has yet to be announced, progress is well underway. Contracts for the project have been awarded, designs approved, and freight services already operational.
The Abu Dhabi-Dubai high-speed rail line is expected to be the highlight, cutting travel times drastically. For now, freight trains are transporting goods across the country, demonstrating the reliability of the system.
What’s next for passengers?
While we wait for the network to officially open, excitement is building for what’s to come. Inspired by Emirati heritage, the stations will blend traditional design with modern amenities, offering retail outlets, family-friendly zones, and business lounges.
Plus, plans for a luxury train service with plush interiors are already in the works. Imagine traveling through the UAE in five-star comfort, from Fujairah to the Liwa desert.
