Dubai: Dubai has announced to build world's largest airport at the cost of Dh128 billion.
The mega project has been approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai. A Dh128 billion passenger terminal will be built at the at Al Maktoum International Airport. Construction will start with immediate effect.
Al Maktoum Airport will feature 400 aircraft gates, five terminals, and five parallel runways, with the incorporation of innovative technologies unique to the aviation industry.
The decision comes immediately after the recent extreme rains which led to the suspension of flights at the Dubai Airports which was flooded with rain water.
Sheikh Mohammed revealed the new project on his X account on Sunday. He said that he approved the design of the new project, which aims to position Al Maktoum International Airport as the largest in the world, with a capacity projected to accommodate 260 million passengers. It will be five time bigger than the existing Dubai International Airport.
Plans are underway to move all operations from Dubai International Airport to Al Maktoum International Airport in the next 10 years. The project represents a significant part of the Dubai Aviation Corporation's strategy.
“We are ushering in a new era of growth in the global aviation sector, with Dubai poised to lead the international aviation industry for the next forty years,” Sheikh Mohammed tweeted.
Airport city
“Concurrently, we are laying the foundation for an entire airport city in Dubai South, set to accommodate the housing needs of up to one million people. This city will attract some of the world's most prominent companies in the logistics and air transport sectors,” Sheikh Mohammed added.
“This isn't just infrastructure; it's a legacy that we are crafting for the future generations. Our commitment is to ensure consistent and robust growth for our children and to establish Dubai as the preeminent global hub, not only for aviation but also as a port, an urban metropolis, and a new cultural epicenter,” Sheikh Mohammed said on is X account.
