DUBAI: In a groundbreaking move towards sustainability, Bahi Ajman Palace Hotel, in collaboration with AirOWater Global, has inaugurated the UAE’s first 100% sustainable water bottling plant that extracts water directly from the air.
This pioneering initiative, launched in the presence of Sheikh Abdulaziz Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Department of Tourism Development, and Mahmood Khaleel Ahmed Alsayed Alhashmi, Director General of Ajman Department of Tourism Development, sets a new standard for the region’s hospitality sector.
Harnessing Water-from-Air tech
The cutting-edge facility at Bahi Ajman Palace Hotel produces an impressive 365,000 litres of purified drinking water annually, harnessing atmospheric moisture to generate clean, potable water. This technology, developed by AirOWater Global, eliminates the need for plastic bottles and provides a self-sustaining, eco-friendly water source for the hotel.
The initiative fully replaces plastic water bottles with reusable glass alternatives, supplying all guest rooms, dining areas, poolside lounges, and beach zones. “We believe this solution is a game-changer,” said Iftikhar Hamdani, Area General Manager of Bahi Ajman Palace Hotel. “By leveraging an untapped resource – water from air – we are significantly reducing our plastic waste and setting a new benchmark for sustainable hospitality.”
Reducing carbon footprint
By eliminating the use of plastic bottles and transporting water over long distances, the hotel is achieving a carbon footprint reduction of 33.58 metric tonnes of CO₂e per year. This aligns with the UAE’s Net Zero Vision, reinforcing the country’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental conservation.
“This partnership represents a significant step towards a greener future,” said Shubhojit Mahalanobis, Co-Founder and Partner at AirOWater Global. “By implementing our water-from-air technology, Bahi Ajman Palace Hotel is setting a precedent for the hospitality industry, demonstrating that luxury and sustainability can go hand in hand.”
Promoting a circular economy
Beyond water production, the initiative promotes the reusability and recycling of glass bottles. Broken glass is collected, repurposed, and reintroduced into the system, ensuring minimal environmental impact. By championing a plastic-free approach, Bahi Ajman Palace Hotel is contributing to the circular economy while maintaining high-end service standards.
The initiative not only enhances the hotel’s sustainability credentials but also encourages other hospitality brands to adopt similar eco-friendly measures. With the growing emphasis on environmental responsibility, the success of this project could pave the way for widespread adoption of atmospheric water generation technology across the region.
