Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Tarish Al Amimi, Commander of the Cannon Team, emphasised the cultural significance of this tradition. “The Eid cannon is not just a ceremonial gesture—it represents a tradition that resonates deeply with Emiratis and UAE residents. It is a cherished part of our social fabric,” he said.

The cannons used for Eid in Dubai are vintage French-made weapons from the 1960s, each capable of producing a 170-decibel blast—loud enough to be heard up to 10 kilometres away. The spectacle is further enhanced by Dubai Police’s ceremonial uniforms, reinforcing the grandeur of the event.

The tradition, which dates back to the 1960s in the UAE, remains a proud part of Emirati celebrations, bridging the past with the present. It is one of the most anticipated moments of the celebrations, uniting generations in a shared experience.

To ensure residents across Dubai can witness the event, seven locations have been designated:

  • Zabeel – near Zabeel Grand Mosque
  • Eid prayer ground – Nad Al Sheba
  • Eid prayer ground – Nad Al Hamar
  • Al Baraha
  • Al Barsha
